C-P productions came to be as the result of an encounter between the film director Pierre Carles and producer Annie Gonzalez. In 1998 the 16 partners decided to create an original structure initially designed to produce and distribute the full-length documentary entitled Pas vu pas pris, prohibited by television channels. This film, an unprecedented, funny and impertinent review of the media, spurred creative work which has enabled several full-length films to be made, developed, produced and directed independently of traditional mainstream networks. These films provide food for thought but are also for general public viewing. Even if they are refused by the television channels in France, they are of interest to a broad and varied public who come to discuss issues in movie theatres off the beaten track, in France and abroad. Active support from spectators offers us a unique place in the world of cinema. Our films have 92,000 admissions on average which, taking all types of box office...
...receipts into account is remarkable. This preferential link with all those who wish to stimulate their minds is what we try to reactivate with each new film project.
After Pas vu pas pris, La sociologie est un sport de combat, Enfin pris? came Attention danger travail, and Volem rien foutre al païs with Pierre Carles, Christophe Coello and Stéphane Goxe as co-directors. We have opened the door to other authors in an ever growing desire to give a voice to unconventional mind frames that obtain little media coverage yet reflect contemporary thought patterns.
We brain storm together. All kinds of ideas are valuable. Our individual skills help the projects move forward because we believe that the group work concept applies to cinema. Due to this conception of film making and production, our fragile economic autonomy and the independence that we strive for, only projects that are in line with this reality have a place at C-P Productions. It is a type of selection or "label".
In this way, we developed and co-produced Les petits poucets, the third full-feature film by Thomas Bardinet (Le cri de tarzan, Les Ames câlines). It is drama, the artistic challenge of which resides in a special way of seeing things.
As the cinema continues to be a place of freedom, albeit in an increasingly fragile way, our aim is to show films that have not been viewable, or with difficulty, and which reveal unknown or poorly known realities in an original way.
We are continuing our distribution work by publishing video and now V.O.D.
"I think that the future is in niche markets, strangely enough, in other words, those smaller venues where we can survive and get the message across. So why is it important? Because, I believe that if something that should not be said can still be said somewhere, someone will hear it and then it will resurface ten years later. A huge part of what we do when we write or work would be meaningless if we didn’t believe that. (...) This is why I don't want to play the role of an exemplary prophet, when I say I do things for the youth of today, my main role is getting them to realise that we can still do things, and that their adolescent eccentricities are not absurd, and that even at my ripe old age I still have youthful impetuousness." (Pierre Bourdieu in Enfin pris?)
