First part of the Kassel Trilogy. Oma is the German word for ‘GrandMa’. Catherine Bernstein’s wish was to interview her German grandmother, as well as her grandmother’s classmates, who all took their A level in 1933 in Kassel, Germany (a 200,000-inhabitant city 100 miles East of Cologne). Sixty years later, through different interviews, this film brings to life a photography of German society facing Nazism: adhesion to Nazism for some, fear for others, escape for a few of them. But what has become of the seven Jewish girls studying with Oma?
