Né à Vienne (Autriche) le 29 avril 1907, décédé à Londres (Angleterre) le 14 mars 1997. Réalisateur et producteur. Il réalise notamment deux chefs d'œuvre du cinéma américain : Le Train sifflera trois fois (1952), avec Gary Cooper et Grace Kelly, et Tant qu'il y aura des hommes (1953), avec Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr et Frank Sinatra.
